ok that helps a lot actually. so it's less "is this dose working" and more like onboarding

Absolute or relative risk reduction?

permalink

comment on [Stats] relative risk reduction sells papers, absolute risk reduction makes decisions in c/trialwatch · 56 points · 2 days ago

Yes — the interval is the finding. A point estimate with a wide interval is a hypothesis in a nice font.

this is the first explanation that has made it feel like a design rather than a disappointment. thank you.

as one of the people asking these questions recently — please don't megathread it, having my own post made me feel like I was allowed to be confused, a buried reply in a giant thread wouldn't have

How long was the randomised phase before any extension?

Started keeping the trial identifiers straight in a note file because I kept mixing up two programmes in the same sentence.

Went looking for the registered protocol to see whether the endpoint had changed. It had not, which was reassuring and worth checking.

Argued for a week about a result and then read the limitations section, which conceded most of my opponent’s point.

Yes — the shortage database is the source. The news coverage of it is downstream and usually a week behind.

The discontinuation numbers were the most useful thing in the paper for me and they were in a supplementary table.

formulary_fighter is right about the programme names. They are different populations with different endpoints.

Where the time actually goes, which I got wrong for two years.

Agreed — and the decomposition matters. Most people are blaming the international leg for a last-mile problem.

open-label extensions are not the same evidence as the randomised phase

Rang three pharmacies for a private price and got three different numbers, all in the same city.

Posted my first lane report here without the month and got asked for it. Fair, and the table is better for the fussiness.

This. A quoted lead time that holds is worth more than a fast one that does not.

Right, and the last mile is where my variance has always come from, not the international leg.

Body weight varies by a couple of kilos day to day through fluid, glycogen and gut content, which is why a single weigh-in is noise and a fortnightly

This is the one I would put in the sidebar. The middle is where everyone lives.

That is a waist measurement, not a weight, and the thread has been comparing them as though they were the same.

farid_kuipers is right that the clothes tell you before the scale does.
