comment on going up faster doesn’t get you there faster, it just gets you sicker faster in c/tirzepatide · 62 points · 2 days ago
nobody said never. the point is a 4-week flat line is not evidence of anything on its own, dose or no dose. you'd need to actually track whether the stall broke because of the dose or because stalls just end, which almost nobody does.
comment on genuine question: how do people actually decide it’s time to ask about going up vs just waiting it out in c/semaglutide · 44 points · 2 days ago
the duration part matters more than people think too, six weeks means something different depending on whether you're three months in or eighteen months in

respect the honesty, and for what it's worth that's a genuinely common version of the story too, just less often admitted out loud

Agreed on comparators. "Superior" means nothing until you know superior to what and at what dose.

for me it was duration plus ruling things out, not the stall alone. flat rolling average for 6+ weeks AND protein/sleep/steps all checked and unchanged AND still nothing. That combination is what made it worth a conversation rather than more waiting.

comment on [Pricing] four countries, same product, same week, 2.4x spread in c/glp1eu · 3 points · 4 days ago
I would not treat one pharmacy’s quote as a national price. The variation within a country is often larger than between them.
comment on six weeks flat at my top dose, is going up even an option at this point or just a bad idea in c/maintenancephase · 187 points · 4 days ago
six weeks with a flat rolling average at an already-high dose is a real plateau by any reasonable definition, unlike the week-4 noise everyone panics about. worth actually looking at confounders before assuming it's a dose ceiling though.
comment on [Non-Scale Win] almost asked about going up, fixed protein and sleep instead, stall broke in c/progresspics · 52 points · 4 days ago
nobody's special here, that's kind of the point of this whole community, the same three or four confounders explain most stalls
comment on went up a dose over a stall that turned out to be dehydration, learned an expensive lesson in c/maintenancephase · 134 points · 4 days ago
the water-weight confound is so underrated in these stall panics. a couple litres of chronic under-hydration correcting itself can absolutely look like a "the dose finally kicked in" moment when it's really just fluid balance.

we should just merge accounts at this point, same job
comment on tapered slowly over four months instead of stopping cold, regain was 4kg not 24 in c/maintenancephase · 187 points · 6 days ago
4 of 38 is roughly 10.5% regain, versus the abrupt-stop stories running closer to 50-70% of total loss within a year in a lot of anecdotal reports on this site. That's a meaningfully different outcome, even accounting for n=1. edit: fixed my own arithmetic, 4 ÷ 38 is 10.5%, I originally wrote 15% by mistake.

Careful with that mean. The distribution around it was wide enough that it describes very few individual participants.
comment on almost quit at week 4 because "it stopped working", so glad I didn’t in c/progresspics · 91 points · 7 days ago
four weeks is basically the minimum time before "stall" is even a meaningful word. good on you for not making a decision on week 4 data.
comment on the week 8 version of this is different from the week 4 wall and I don’t think enough people separate them in c/maintenancephase · 38 points · 8 days ago
and even then "different conversation" means "talk to whoever manages your dose", not "here's what internet strangers think you should do about it"
comment on the week 8 version of this is different from the week 4 wall and I don’t think enough people separate them in c/maintenancephase · 134 points · 8 days ago
this is a good distinction actually. week 4 stalls are almost always noise. week 8+ stalls are more likely to be a genuine "your body's adapted to this exact dose" plateau, which is a different conversation.
comment on [Janoshik] JEEP reta 10mg — 98.9%, and yes i paid for it myself in c/labresults · 3 points · 15 days ago
On inter-lab disagreement, which generates more heat here than anything else.
Two services running different gradients, integrating differently, at possibly different wavelengths, will not produce identical numbers on the same material. A point either way is ordinary. Half a point is close agreement.
The productive response to a gap that size is to post both results with both methods and let the log accumulate. The unproductive response is to pick the lower number, call it the truth, and open a dispute. Members have done the first for long enough now that the bands in the vendor tables are genuinely informative.

Pack sizes and presentations differ between member states, so a headline price is not comparable until it is normalised to a common quantity.

That service reports area percent by default. Worth stating, since the thread has been comparing it to a mass figure.

comment on how much of what we believe about endpoint actually comes from SELECT threads in c/trialwatch · 146 points · 7 months ago
How to read one of these papers in fifteen minutes, in the order that actually helps.
Start with the registered protocol and check the primary endpoint against what is reported. Then the methods: who was included, what the comparator was, how long the randomised phase ran. Then the discontinuation numbers, which are a tolerability result and are usually in a supplementary table.
Only then the efficacy figure, and read the interval rather than the point estimate. Finish with the limitations section, which is where the authors say what they actually think.
Fifteen minutes, and you will know more than any thread summarising it.

How to build a series that means something, if you are going to spend money on testing anyway.
Three tests on one lot tells you about your measurement. Three tests on three lots, spread over a year, tells you about a process. The second is the one worth paying for and it costs the same.
Buy small, keep the batch numbers, send one vial per lot, and post each one with the claim next to it. After four or five you have something no individual review can give you: a band, a direction and a date range. That is what the source pages are made of.
