small win: non-scale victory stopped being a problem at week 61

Non-Scale Winbranch of 9 comments

Check-in as promised in the title: small win: non-scale victory stopped being a problem at week 61. Stopped reading the fastest posts here for a month and my mood improved considerably. Nobody noticed for months. Then several people noticed in the same fortnight, which was strange and quite nice. Not medical advice,…

38kg over 16 months and honestly the most useful marker was that stairs stopped being a decision.

Stalled for 24 weeks and measured my waist out of stubbornness. It had moved. The scale had not.

non-scale victories count and they are the ones people remember

Rate of change is not a virtue. Slower trajectories are as durable as fast ones and are considerably better represented on this board than the front page suggests.

Why this board is text only, since new members ask every week.

A photograph invites comparison on things nobody can control — lighting, posture, where you carry weight, what you looked like before any of this. Text invites description of what changed for you: the jacket, the stairs, the measurement, the month it took.

The result is a board where the posts are about people’s actual experience rather than about images, and where nobody is competing on the wrong axis. It was a deliberate choice, it has been challenged periodically, and every time it has been kept.

Yes. Clothes fitting differently arrives well before the scale acknowledges anything.

Small correction, kindly meant: that is a range rather than a regain. Weight moves day to day in everybody.

This is the one I would put in the sidebar. The middle is where everyone lives.

That is a waist measurement, not a weight, and the thread has been comparing them as though they were the same.

About c/progresspics

Progress posts with no images, by design. Starting point, current point, timeframe, dose history, what changed besides the scale. Text-only removes the comparison trap, the body-shaming pile-on and the entire question of who owns a photo of your torso.
